How To Get Rid Of Stress With Nutrition
Author: Michelle Yandle, HPN Certified Nutrition Coach and advisor

More by authorIf I were to ask you what your stress levels are like at the moment overall – where would they fall on the scale? If you’re like most people today, I’d say they land on the higher end of things. Sadly, it’s a state of our current livelihoods that stress factors into our daily lives. We’re expected to take on so much as humans each day from raising kids and balancing full-time work to dealing with global uncertainties and everything in between.
That being said, there is support. We know that there are lots of simple things you can do to reduce stress in your life or at least reduce your body’s response to stress and we know that everyone will have different methods that work for them; from mindfulness to walking and supplementation.
Nuzest’s Good Green Vitality has been recently reformulated to give our bodies even more of what it needs to cope with today’s hectic lifestyles and can be a good place to start for those looking to fill in some nutritional gaps and give their bodies need a little extra TLC to enjoy optimal health.
The refreshed and rejuvenated formula now includes more vitamins, minerals and vital nutrients to further support our body’s ability to manage stress, and increase our energy levels throughout the day. These include:
A collection of B-complex vitamins including a greater boost of B3, B6 and B9. All of these can help to maintain a healthy nervous system which is essential when it comes to supporting the body to deal with stress. Some studies have shown that B-complex vitamins can improve our overall mood and reduce overall stress and mental fatigue. Sign me up!
Vitamin B6 can help to regulate the body’s serotonin and norepinephrine both of which can support our mental stability, mood and ability to cope with stress. B-vitamins can also help to regulate the body’s magnesium levels.
Speaking of Magnesium. This is also an important in the Good Green Vitality to help us cope with stress and has often been used as a natural treatment for anxiety*. It does so by supporting the functioning of our brain overall but in particular with those parts of the brain responsible for reducing stress and anxiety in the body
Good Green Vitality’s new formula also contains a larger dose of your key adaptogens for stress support, rhodiola and ashwagandha. Both of which have been used to support your body’s overall resistance to stress.
Rhodiola in particular was used in a study looking at its effectiveness for those dealing with burnout – the result of chronic long-term stress and the results were very encouraging and warranting further investigations. Overall those involved in the study showed clear improvement for various symptoms of stress/anxiety and the resulting burnout. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5370380/ And as an added ‘bonus’, rhodiola has also been shown to improve fatigue, overall mood and concentration.
Ashwagandha, is another adaptogen that is well known to be an important herb when it comes to stress reduction. So much so, that it’s been used for thousands of years to help relieve stress and increase energy. The keyword is ‘adaptogen’ which means that it is a substance that helps the body ‘adapt’ to and cope with stress. Not only that but it has also been shown in studies to help with sleep, an important part of helping ourselves deal with and get through stressful times.
Good Green Vitality is not only a great source of vitamins, minerals and adaptogens, but it also contains probiotics to support our microbiome. Stress is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to poor gut health and likewise, if our gut is healthy often our mood is improved as well. Though it may be a chicken-egg situation taking care of our overall health and improving our gut health will in turn support our mental wellbeing and ability to cope with stress.
Overall, a healthy diet can contribute to improved mental wellbeing. This includes eating a variety of fibre-rich foods, vegetables, fruits, protein and healthy fats. In addition, Good Green Vitality can be a great way to fill in any nutritional gaps as well as give your body a that extra boost thanks to select adaptogens and herbs. Try it for a month and see how you feel!
*Nutritional intervention is just one of many pieces of the puzzle when it comes to supporting our body’s ability to handle life’s stresses. It goes without say that if you are struggling to get help – speak to your health care professional to see what support might be best for you and before undergoing any type of supplement intervention other than a healthy daily dose of Good Green Vitality.
